When work becomes personal: learnings from my stroke journey

When work becomes personal: learnings from my stroke journey

My stroke journey has shaped my life in ways I never could have imagined. ? ? With more than 15 years of experience in the neurology and stroke space, my passion for improving access to stroke care runs deep. But it wasn't until I was 42 years old that stroke became more than just a professional focus—it became my personal reality.? ?

They say in the stroke world, "Time is brain," and I felt the truth of that statement firsthand. When the signs of a stroke began to manifest in my own body, I knew I had to act fast. Seeking care immediately was crucial, and thankfully, it meant that I avoided any long-lasting effects and could maintain my quality of life.? ?

Now, every day I wake up driven by the desire to ensure that others have the same chance at surviving a stroke that I did. Through Teladoc Health's telestroke solution, we’re helping hospitals and health systems expand access to high-quality, time-sensitive, specialized care for stroke patients.? ? ?

Stroke isn't just a statistic to me—it's a stark reminder of the fragility of life. It's the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and a leading cause of disability(1). May is Stroke Awareness Month, I urge you to join me in learning the signs and symptoms of stroke.?

By learning and sharing the F.A.S.T. warning signs, you just might save a life from stroke.? ?

  • A?= Arm Weakness?– Is one arm weak or numb??Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward??

Gratitude fills my heart as I extend a heartfelt thank you for sharing your personal journey. It's a brave act to confront our own vulnerabilities, and even more courageous to open up about them publicly. Your story is a beacon of hope and a guide for many to recognize the signs. Kudos to you for your generosity in helping others through your experiences.
