When a Work of Art Answers A Question
"Think of a question you want to ask at the museum!" Laurie Phillips texted two days earlier. She was going to guide me in an experience with Museum Sage . I chose a question I'd been considering ("What should I write about in 2025?") and that I didn't consider particularly personal. That morning, I brainstormed a list of potential topics - some light, some less light.
She mindfully guided me through MIA and we landed at this piece by Egon Schiele, depicting his good friend in a moment of inspired creativity. I was blown away at the resemblance to my son, who is also a highly creative soul. Ther's more to the story but suffice it to say, I had an unexpected answer to my question (what to write about), and a secondary experience of inspiration (the magical moment of creation).
This worked for me on many levels. As a coach, I believe in the power of a question. As a human being, I believe in the power of beauty. As an Irish kid, I believe in the magic of the right answer showing up in a supposedly random painting! And maybe that nothing's random and maybe the magic is there if we just stay open to it!
