Our podcast is back (??) and we recently dropped part one of our discussion on The Wing, a women-focused coworking space collective that was extremely popular, exclusive, and had massive funding.?

Despite how bright the future looked for The Wing on the outside, they HARDLY made it through the Summer of 2020 after being called out for?racism?and, basically, rich white?faux feminism. They completely shut down a few months ago... ??

Anyways, the coincidence is that right after chatting with M&M about The Wing, and how not all feminist spaces are actually feminist, just branded that way, I saw TikToks like these...?(the comments are very telling, READ THEM!)
Where is it all going wrong? We celebrate the rise of women CEOs because historically the patriarchy prevented that for so long. We understand that spaces run by women are supposed to be more inclusive, nurturing, kinder, and redefine what professionalism means now that it's not completely controlled by men.
?
But so often, we hear about [mostly millennial, white] women CEOs being just as awful. Yes, they're women and them being CEOs is groundbreaking, but these women can still be classist, racist, ignorant, even internally misogynistic.?
?
We've talked about women CEOs being called out for behavior at disproportionate rates on our?podcast?before. It's true and unfair. But the ignorance is worse.
?
I'm so glad women are doing their thing in business. And I'm especially glad that we have women CEOs and professionals who are actually progressive in practice and not just personal branding.
?
But so many people, especially young girls and women, are disappointed by the fact that they're getting similar crappy boss behavior that they would've gotten with a man.?

At the end of the day, what does it matter to?me?and people like me if the CEO is a woman or man if you're going to get the same uncomfortable, ignorant leadership either way?

Luckily, I have Maggie and Meredith and this isn't a problem for me now. But it's a shame that is a problem for so many other people, like former employees of The Wing.
