When A Week Goes Sideways

This week threw me for a loop. It was one of those weeks where everything seemed to go sideways, and by Tuesday, I was dangerously close to slipping into reactive mode. But by Wednesday, I knew something had to change. My body was tensing up, and a concerned stranger even stopped to ask if I was alright. Recognizing the need for a shift, I took action: I sought a change of scenery and returned to my tried-and-true routine, even though it may seem dull to some. Yet, it's this routine that keeps me grounded amidst life's unpredictability—a strategy echoed by my most successful clients, who swear by its effectiveness in staving off burnout and maintaining progress.

Three Insights Gleaned Amidst the Turmoil:

  1. Consistency Breeds Trust: Reflecting on the chaos, I couldn't help but think about the importance of training. Think back to your last visit to a favorite restaurant or store. What made the experience memorable? More often than not, it's the reliability—the mark of consistent training. As consumers, we value this reliability. So, how can we ensure our team members are trained to consistently deliver exceptional experiences, even in the absence of direct oversight?
  2. Prioritize Self-Care: Here's a confession: I struggle with prioritizing self-care, despite advocating for it. Last week, a client's simple decision shed light on this dilemma. Rather than seizing a rare opportunity for solitude, they opted for self-indulgence—a leisurely lunch and a rejuvenating massage. Witnessing their transformation, I realized the profound impact of self-care. When was the last time you took a moment to replenish your own reserves, and how did it impact your overall well-being?
  3. Be Your Own Advocate: For years, I battled debilitating migraines, searching desperately for relief. It was an exhausting journey, but it taught me the power of self-advocacy. We hold the reins to our lives, yet it's easy to relinquish control. Advocacy means asking the tough questions, seeking answers, and refusing to accept the status quo. So, when was the last time you challenged the narrative and advocated fiercely for what you truly want?

Life's curveballs are inevitable, but our response to them shapes our journey. Perhaps the irony lies in the unplanned—a week set aside for leisure turning into a whirlwind of events. In a world where surprises lurk around every corner, scheduling time for spontaneity might just be the most productive decision we make. So, when will you carve out space for the unexpected and allow life to unfold as it may?
