When we choose to look up
Yesterday morning, after feeding the alpacas, I stood in the trees above the lake and chose to look up.
My eyes caught the moss on the oak tree, so characteristic of this little valley, and I pondered on all that this day holds.
SEVENTH OF OCTOBER
Looking up
I see moss on the branches
glistening in the shafts
of morning sunlight.
A few ducks
pootling around the lake
grateful that the swans
are here, keeping watch.
The sound of
water frames the valley,
last night’s rain
dripping from the leaves,
and little waterfalls
pouring from springs
eager to join the flow
on its way to the sea.
Here today
I see life – shaming the
chaos of man’s destruction.
And I pray.
