When an unknown stranger helps you

Swami Vivekananda says - we always proceed from the known to the unknown just like in algebra we proceed from “x” the unknown to solve the problem. So, now the question is , why are we not aware about the “known” which is concealed within us as if it is unknown. In Purushasookta, Yejurveda, says Sahasra…… Atyadishta dashangulam. In this Universe only dashangulam ie., only 10 inches(%) is visible and the other 90 % is invisible, so it is concealed. Our Rishis have revealed everything in Vedas and Vedanta but we are not interested to learn or ignorant due to our own negligence or carelessness.

Vedanta is the future religion of the world - Swami Vivekananda. Vedas are the only religion of the world- Maharshi Swami Dayanand Saraswati. We visit meaningless temples, churches or mosques and we become more foolish than to understand about the hidden universe and about life. We practice hatred towards others as we are witnessing today the religion of terrorism against innocents. It's unfortunate.

Have you read Benjamin Franklin? He unlocked the secret to getting other people to like you. Most of us have been conditioned to think that the way to get someone to like us is by doing nice little favors for them, thereby demonstrating that we are a thoughtful and dependable person. However the good old Benji thought differently. Franklin once had a very powerful political rival who was hellbent on making his life miserable. Franklin knew that it would be beneficial to have this man on his side, but instead of groveling for his approval, he took a counter-intuitive approach. He knew his rival was in possession of a very rare and valuable book, and simply asked him to borrow it.

After a few days, he returned it with a thank you note and, surprisingly, his rival became his friend. What Franklin tapped into is a well-known psychological principle known as cognitive dissonance. Basically, cognitive dissonance is the tension that results from having two contradictory beliefs in our mind at the same time. This stress is uncomfortable, so we automatically alter one of our beliefs to conform with the other to resolve this conflict.

In the case of Franklin, his rival held the belief: “I do not like Benjamin Franklin.” Upon doing him the favour, however, he was forced to come to terms with another belief: “It’s a pain in the ass to do favours for other people, so I only do favours for people I like.” These two beliefs are in conflict, and since he cannot un-loan the book, he was forced to soften and eventually reverse his ill-will towards Franklin. The secret of the Benjamin Franklin effect is this: If you want people to like you, ask them to do favours for you.

There is a probability of being helped by an unknown person in new place where you have never being before, because of humanity which still resides in all human, but you may call yourself lucky, but most of all, the feeling of being helped encourages you inspires you to stay strong in new place too, this will make you feel better from inside, you feel like you're presentable, your confidence increases and it is observed that person got helped in unexpected places in unexpected situation will tends to help others, and every time you help others a rare type of happiness rises you feel proud of yourself, it will make you a better human, the feeling is amazing I can say.

Humans where ever you go, to any country you go - their culture and expressions may be different, but they are mostly "Kind".. That's the best part of humanity. For sure they may pick your pocket or steal you etc, but still they have basic humanity driving their actions. It happened to me in several places and several different situations across the world that people behaved "diametrically" opposite to what I was told and what I thought they will be like, before going there. What's the best way of dealing with the unknown? An unknown is an unknown till it is known. There are so many unknowns in the world and are you going to live just thinking about how to deal with them? Well, your life would be lost even before you know. Cheers!
