It's talent outcomes season here at 埃森哲 . This is the time of year that I reflect on my career and celebrate all the career milestones of my colleagues. Back in September, I celebrated another momentous anniversary with 埃森哲 .? 13 years!? What a journey it has been. ? A decade plus of growth, opportunity, and excitement has gotten me where I am today, and I am so grateful for all of the lessons learned along the way.?
Into the “New”
Before joining Accenture, I previously worked in the non-profit space and before that on Capitol Hill.? I wanted to make a change and was looking forward to what this new opportunity could bring me at that point in my career. The theme of “new” presented itself over and over again to me — a new experience, new environment, new opportunity, and of course, a new salary.?
In that season of my life, the move from non-profit work to the corporate world was energizing and brand new. The culture, large matrixed organization, and?processes were all “new” — but allowed me to expand on and enhance the skill set and professional experiences I had mastered throughout those first few years of my career.
Take That Stretch Role
I’ve learned many lessons in these 13 years (some easier than others!). One that has stuck with me the most as I continue to learn and be challenged in my role at Accenture: we must be open to new opportunities, even if you think you aren’t qualified or a good fit. Nine times out of ten, you were selected because someone believes in you. Stretch roles are great for growth.? If you are at this point in your career, go for that stretch role, lateral move, rotational program, etc.? Take the chance to learn something new and build and diversify your network.??
Internal mobility opportunities early on during your time at an organization guide your path towards career exploration. Speak up early and often about opportunities you want to explore. If there is an area in the company you’d love to learn more about and possibly work in, talk to your manager and team so possible connections can be made.?

Your Network is REALLY your Net Worth
I know it sounds cliché, but your Network really is your Net Worth. I’m currently in my 7th role and have worked in five (5) departments. Most of my roles came through word of mouth and referrals from people speaking my name in rooms I was not in. My personal brand, my impactful contributions and the connections I’ve made helped me in those scenarios. People felt confident taking a chance on me. Your connections and your network will do the same!
Journey to the Now
I joined this company back in 2009 as a single woman in an Individual Contributor role looking to make a career move. I’m now a dance mom, wife, community steward, real estate investor, and career strategist who leads an amazing team making a great impact. I have committed sponsors dedicated to my success, wonderful colleagues,?and prioritized work/life balance (or as I call it, Life Integration), in an organization that cares about me. ? That’s why I’m still here 13 years later.???
