Why can't we be friends? Why can't we be friends? ... you know the song.
Reality is that a team does not necessarily need to be all friends among each other (ideal, but not frequent) yet a respectful, honest, transparent interaction and communication is critical.
But, what to do when this is not the situation, by far? There are several steps that can be taken to fix dysfunctional teams and the challenges that may be encountered during the process.
Identify the root cause of the dysfunction: It is important to identify the root cause of the dysfunction in order to address it effectively. This may involve conducting team assessments, one-on-one meetings with team members, and analyzing team dynamics. If the root cause is an employee or even a few team members, fire fast. It is for the greater good, and dragging a toxic situation will make you lose key talent and kill motivation among the rest of the team.
Communicate openly and honestly: Open and honest communication is crucial for addressing and resolving issues within a team. Encourage team members to speak up and share their concerns and ideas.
Set clear goals and expectations: It is important to have clear goals and expectations for the team in order to ensure that everyone is working towards the same objectives. This includes establishing roles and responsibilities, setting deadlines, and providing feedback.

Foster a positive and inclusive culture: A positive and inclusive culture can help to build trust and foster collaboration within the team. Encourage team members to support and respect one another, and encourage open communication and participation.
Implement training and development programs: Providing training and development opportunities can help team members to improve their skills and knowledge, and can also help to foster a sense of growth and progression within the team.
Address conflicts and issues promptly: It is important to address conflicts and issues promptly in order to prevent them from escalating and causing further dysfunction within the team. This may involve mediating conflicts or providing support and resources to team members.
Seek external support: If the team is unable to resolve issues on their own, it may be necessary to seek external support in the form of a team coach or counselor. These professionals can provide guidance and support to help the team overcome their challenges.
A healthy team is typically more productive than an unhealthy one because team members are able to work together effectively, communicate openly, and collaborate. This leads to faster problem solving, better decision making, and increased efficiency. It also leads to higher morale among team members. This can translate into a better work environment and a more enjoyable experience for everyone, and it is highly likely to produce high-quality work because team members are able to work together constructively and are motivated to do their best.
