When Startups Change Lives - One Such Story

We started Snapdeal with the vision to create life changing experiences for our sellers and buyers. Today I am very pleased to share one such story with you - the extraordinary story of a 24 year old women entrepreneur Anjali.

Hailing from a small town in India, Anjali is a seller in the Home furnishing category. From a very young age, Anjali was interested in creating differentiated products like paintings, cushion covers etc. She was selling her products locally without much access to a wider market before being introduced to Snapdeal.

She joined the Snapdeal family with the dream of selling her products nationally and building her brand name; today Anjali sells her products across 40 cities all over the country. She is a reputed seller on our platform, and from less than 400 units a month to 500 units a day, her venture has come a long way. Anjali is one of more than 150 thousand sellers currently selling on the Snapdeal platform. Our vision is to have 1 million sellers use Snapdeal platform in not so distant future.

We set up Snapdeal to create a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem which will help small entrepreurs grow and contribute to the development of the country. Right now, an estimated 95% of retail in India is unorganized. Selling online would also enable the millions of small time traders in India to transition from an unorganized to an organized way of retailing.

Small businesses in India have never been happier; they are being enticed by the major online marketplaces with lucrative deals; their business is booming due to the now new omnipresent online business channel.  Some smart sellers are also building new brands exclusive to the online channel.

A vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem would help increase the contribution of small businesses to India's GDP to 15% by 2020 from 8% now, and increase their employment share from the 28% to over 50%, according to a KPMG-CII study.

Small businesses contribute 22% in Brazil and 85% in Taiwan. Clearly, Indian’s success is largely correlated with the success of its MSME ecosystem.

The gain from online marketplaces is not just limited to product MSMEs. Online services like Ola cabs & Uber have also revolutionized small-time service providers by giving them a larger market at much better commercials than they had access to before.

Indian MSMEs are diverse in their approach to business and a single approach cannot work on a pan-India basis. Almost all these businesses are family owned with limited automation, no standard processes and in some cases firm resistance to changing their traditional ways of doing business.

At Snapdeal, we take our sellers onboard while formulating any policy; we have built a user-friendly seller registration and training system, a robust seller tech platform and have a dedicated seller support team to resolve all their grievances in the shortest time possible.

Anjali, for example, was helped by our Capital Assist program to fund her own manufacturing unit, and Snapdeal Plus, which provided her space to stock inventory and manage the large order volumes.

Thus, with some help from us and her own resourcefulness and grit, Anjali is working to fulfil her dream of reviving the traditional crafts of India and promoting talent of hundreds of craftsmen.

Anjali is a source of inspiration for many, especially young women who dream to lead as entrepreneurs and make it big in life. At Snapdeal, we firmly believe our success lies in the success of our sellers; we spend every single day trying to help our sellers succeed.

Word of Caution- Don't buy any products from Snapdeal. Like a long list of Snapdeal fraud victims, I also had a similar experience where Snapdeal delivered a tampered/refurbished iphone. After 15 days of my iphone 6s purchase on 4 Jan 2017 (Complaint reference number 39474280), the device malfunctioned and ‘no service’ problem was detected. As a corrective action, we replaced the existing Airtel SIM with new one. Still the issue was not resolved. However, the same SIM was working fine in all other devices which confirmed hardware issue. Straightaway, we visited the nearest Apple’s authorized service center- IZenica Lifestyle Pvt. Ltd., located in DLF Mall of India (Sector 18 Noida),where they confirmed that iphone device has tampered logic board? and is having unauthorized modification. Unwanted sign marks are there on logic board and screws are rusted. There are tampering signs near speaker. We have got documented service report from Apple Authorised service provider that confirms that Snapdeal has cheated us. Despite several followups, Snapdeal is not bothered to respond. I tried calling all their customer care numbers and emails but got no resolution. After this experience i went through various other complaints online and found out that 70-80% filed complaints have still no resolution even after 1 year. It was terrible to see the number of fraud cases by Snapdeal. I even got to know empty boxes delivered by Snapdeal. ?I wish i had seen customer feedback before making a purchase from Snapdeal. Witness yourself the losses suffered by Snapdeal customers whose complaints went unanswered. Seeing such repeated fraud cases by Snapdeal, i felt i should caution my friends not to be deceived by Snapdeal. Pls cascade to your dear ones so that no one buys anything from Snapdeal till the time they start doing ethical business and resolve such complaints in time.

Still we updated 2 mobile no and 2 mail id but the answer was not aqble to reach you th hi tech answer from snap deal Cash not refund. Ord ID: 9237212814. Issue raised on nova 5 and still it is not resolved since more than 2 months I’m struggling for the refund but response every time from team was escalated and but there was action oriented output from them. since advance technology used for the after initiation of the refund on NEFT after 5 days I got the information from snap deal was some technical issue not able to process even I give another 5 working day but still the conation again the team try to cheat and starts from scratch we are escalating this issue on top priority I don't know when it will get resolve Since morning your asking time still you can’t locate this issue what an advance technology using at snap deal but even reply was give me time. what? When? How long? That part still in indefinite resolution……………………. Is that I give less time to you for respond since 2 month not enough for your team to respond. Since more than 2 months you are checking it only on out put the concern @ same stage refund not given

One should always strive to do an ethical business, which I guess your organisation is not keeping with. Your social media team is actually a fraud. I demand promt action to be taken against your social media team members TARUN, LEKHPAL SHARMA for misleading me with fake assurances and promises and drifting away from their words. These resolution specialists hired by snapdeal team are good for nothing. Rather I have been harassed by snapdeal's services, registering complaints every single day telephonically and by mail. Order ID: 8540872318. I am sorry, I am posting this on linkedin, but I had an approval from your executives to go ahead with whatever I intended to !
