When Staffing Woes Hit the North Pole

Bah, humbug! While news of labor shortages and hiring challenges is nothing new, the latest piece of news feels more personal: there’s a shortage of Santas this year!

According to Mitch Allen, founder and “head elf” at Santa-recruiting website HireSanta.com, demand for Santas is up 30% year-over-year. Allen also told Entrepreneur that the site is seeing around 20 open job postings for every one “Santa” available for work, leaving approximately 2,250 open positions and counting. That’s a lot of parties, malls, and special events without a Santa Claus!

Santas are far from the only profession dealing with recruiting challenges, especially with a highly competitive labor market for employers trying to attract top talent.
