Quiet Leaders of 2022

When skills in flow bring results and happiness.

QUIET LEADERS

~ As envisioned by Malar Villi Suppramaniam , Sharmini Suthan and Go Ashokh Menon

What is a ‘quiet leader’?

Quiet = introverted? Definitely not! Some are as outgoing as they come.

Quiet = under the radar? Yes and no.

No, because our guests are known for making their mark in their domain or circle.

Yes, because they are relatively unknown beyond their sphere. No books or articles written about them. Yet. They have unconscious competence and confidence to achieve the results they want or need to achieve.

The Leadership in Flow LinkedIn Live shows every Thursday since 3 Feb 2022 were designed to give the quiet leaders we know a voice and a face. And, a following.

“IF YOU LOOK BEHIND LOTS OF GREAT HEROIC LEADERS, YOU FIND THEM DOING LOTS OF QUIET, PATIENT WORK THEMSELVES.”
—JOSEPH L. BADARACCO JR.

We searched for these quiet leaders to interview, decode and learn from. We looked out for practitioners who were willing to share their wisdom with us, and we got really lucky.

These leaders may not sound or look like the ones we read about. Why? As practitioners they reflect, struggle, and navigate through nuances of managing and leading all the while realigning with their personal integrity.

We were inspired by their thoughts, action, passion, and purpose about people.

We were awed by their wisdom, selflessness, and unconditional sharing.

We were buoyed by their demonstrated clarity of their role, conviction of their beliefs and the courage to act on them.

None of which were based on theories or philosophies. These 36 quiet leaders are practitioners, who roll up their sleeves and work shoulder to shoulder with their peers and team members.?

Malar Villi Suppramaniam saw the ASK in these leaders.

Awareness – a regular check in with the self, purpose of the role and organisational goals.

Skills – the unconscious competence of these leaders acquired over years of experience which help them navigate the day-to-day leadership challenges.

Knowledge – the needed knowledge that aligns with the needs of the people in the moment.

I concluded that these leaders consistently and consciously did 3 things – self-awareness of what they are good at and their gaps; self-reflection of what needs strengthening or keeping the same; and built relationships knowing that it is key to the results they want to achieve.

They make the leadership book or articles come alive; the best kind of case-studies for Asia.

Go Ashokh Menon observed these patterns in the 36 leaders:

  • They put people in the centre of their decision making.
  • They valued sincere relationships with their people.
  • They knew that people and relationships is the path to sustainable results.

We realised that the leaders shared a 3-phased growth experience:

1.????Personal Growth

2.????Leadership Growth

3.????Business Growth

?Over the next 3 days in 3 separate articles, read what we learnt from our 36 quiet leaders.?

2023 is gearing up to be just as uncertain as or maybe more so than the past 3 years. As leaders, we now have more experience and wisdom within us and amongst our team members to thrive through even more extraordinary scenarios.

There are many quiet leaders in Asia, demonstrating leadership traits that focus on relationships for results.?

Know of a quiet leader? Tell us. Let us harvest more untapped wisdom.

Heartfelt THANK YOUs to our networks, clients, viewers, listeners and our guests for your encouragement this year. We wish you only the very best.

Have a great start to 2023.
