When Should You Start Your Recruiting Career?
The Millionaire Recruiter
I'll make YOU the next Millionaire Recruiter!
Are you ready to start your recruiting career but are unsure where to start? I've been in the recruiting industry for over 14 years, and I've seen so many people jump into the Talent Acquisition industry and either sink or swim. Let's get you off on the right foot as you embark on your new recruiting career!
Where to Start:
There are several ways to get into recruiting. You can own your own firm, join an agency, or work with an internal team. The path that is right for you will depend. Here are the most important factors to consider when starting your recruiting career.?
Training & Mentorship:
The funny thing about recruiting is that most people fall into it. Yes, recruiting is a very accessible career. But, when you start, consider how you will get training and mentorship. If you're considering an internal or agency recruiting role, you have to ask the company how much they actually train you vs. how much you have to learn on your own. Can I get a show of hands of those promised job training that never happens? Mentorship is a game changer and will be critical if you embark on starting your own agency. If you don't have a mentor, definitely find one, and if you need to, find a mentorship program (I am launching a new program this January 17th)!??
When you start, consider how you will get training and mentorship.

Ramping Up:
When starting a recruiting role, it takes about three months to get ramped up. It takes six months to really start rocking and rolling and a year to experience the amazing benefits of recruiting. If you join an agency, find out how much time they provide you to get ramped up. Does your internal team give you time to get ramped up? Naturally, when you're starting your own firm, there's a lot more ramp-up coming your way because you have to run the business side and the recruiting side. Accounting for ramp-up should be a huge factor in when you start your recruiting career.
Identifying Your Why:
What is your real motivation? Do you want to help people and change lives? Do you want to start your own business and you think this is probably the easiest route to do it? Is it the money? Is it just money? You have to determine, are you money focused or are you career-focused? If you are money focused, I definitely suggest you either start your own firm or join an agency. If you are solely career-focused, I suggest you start as an internal recruiter.
Summary:
When it comes to starting your recruiting career, you have some options. I've highlighted the factors I believe are the most important in determining your success: How much training & mentorship you need, the amount of ramp-up time it will take to start earning, and identifying your why.
