Today's newsletter will be brief. It's a quick response to a question that a former student asked me about when she should ask for a promotion.

My answer was that it depends on the answer to two key questions: (1) Do you think you're ready; and (2) Do other people (namely, your boss) think you're ready?

That creates 4 possibilities worthy of consideration:

For her, the answer was clear. She was in the "time to get the confidence to ask" box - which prompted another conversation about how to do that!

For 'other people,' ensure it refers to a diverse group and not just one individual who might share the same hesitations. This is especially important for women, who often undervalue themselves.
