When the Protégé Surpasses the Mentor

There's a misconception about mentorship – that it's a one-way street where wisdom flows from experienced mentor to eager mentee. While guidance is crucial, the truest joy of mentorship lies in witnessing your protégé blossom and, dare I say, even surpass you.

Over the past 15 years, I've had the privilege of working with some incredible individuals. Each journey is unique, filled with challenges overcome and goals achieved. But the moments that truly resonate are those where my mentees take the skills and knowledge we've built together and soar beyond what I could have ever envisioned.

It's not about competition, of course. It's about witnessing the potential I saw in them bloom into something magnificent. It's the immense satisfaction of knowing you've played a part in shaping someone who can now navigate the world with even greater confidence and impact.

Think of it like planting a seed. You nurture it, provide the right environment, and watch it grow. But the true beauty lies not in the seedling itself, but in the majestic tree it becomes.

Take for example. Teachers... Unlike many other professions with a high turnover rate, teachers often dedicate themselves to a single school, a single community. This creates a remarkable sense of consistency – a familiar face you can always count on.

Unlike careers driven solely by financial gain, teachers often find fulfillment in the success of their students. They become mentors, taking genuine joy in seeing their "protégés" thrive and even surpass them.

So, what can you do??

Get in touch with your mentor/ guide/teacher. Take a moment to reconnect.? A simple hello, a quick update on your life, can rekindle that bond and express your gratitude for their role in your journey.
