When Is Procrastination A Problem And How You Can Overcome It?

?? ?? ???? ?? ???, ?? ??? ?? ?? ?????!

When was the last time you said something like this to yourself?

We all procrastinate from time to time and it’s extremely common but it becomes an issue when it starts interfering with our day-to-day activities.

What is procrastination?

Putting off or delaying things.

Why do we procrastinate?

The majority of people procrastinate occasionally, but there are some for whom it becomes a habit, especially young adults. The reason being, we have a lot of things to do and feel we have a lot of time to complete it.

Also, these might be some of the reasons we procrastinate

Feel anxious about the task at hand

Insecurity about your ability to complete the task

You believe you perform best under pressure so wait until the last minute

Feel tired or bored

When is procrastination a problem?

Yes, it is common, but if it becomes a habit it becomes a problem as it starts hurting you in different ways. Answer these questions in yes or no to find out if you suffer from chronic procrastination.

Do you constantly have trouble getting things done on time?

Do you lie to cover up your delays?

Do you procrastinate in your relationships?

How to get procrastination under control?

Before it begins an issue, learn how you can tackle it.

  • Acknowledge the problem

When we know we have a problem, then only we start looking for a solution. Now that you know what the issue is, focus on the areas you tend to procrastinate- is it work-related or associated with a certain relationship or specific chores?

  • Don’t put yourself down for it

The world is full of insecure people who try to pull others down, you should not do that to yourself. Try to look at it the other way, atleast you know this is your problem & it’s half the battle won.

  • Start with small, manageable goals

For example, you know the task at hand is difficult & you’ve been putting it off. Instead of leaving it to work on it on the given deadline, you can break it into parts. Assign a doc or sheet and add all the research material you require.

Small, easy steps can help you reach there.

  • Give yourself a pep talk

Your negative mindset over a project can get a positive outcome if you stop talking negatively about it, to yourself & others.

Words such as “????? ???? ????, ???? difficult ??, I’m not good at it” would enhance your apprehension about completing the task.

Our mind is a strong tool, we need to feed it positive affirmations & even if you don’t believe it in the beginning, once you fall into this habit, you will trick your mind into believing what you want it to believe.

  • Have someone to hold you accountable

Reach out to a colleague, a friend, or a life coach who from time-to-time checks on your progress.

Procrastination is a trap that many of us fall into. Now that you know the reason behind it, also know that you can overcome it .?
