When Power Erects Walls, WE must be Bridge-Builders of the Heart, Head, and Hand

I woke up with something on my heart.

When power said you are propriety, we showed our humanity (fought in wars, created, built, led and earned our freedom and respect) and expanded all humanity anyway.

When power said you cannot sit there on the bus or store-counter (Jim Crow), we did sit-ins and sat anyway.

When power said you cannot go there (segregation), we marched and went anyway until all can go everywhere every day.

When power said you cannot be president or the head, we became the head anyway.

I am about to go to a Peace March in a minute. Someone asked what are we still marching for? That is a great question. I am going to show love, give hugs and high 5’s, and reflect on a kindergartener we lost one year ago today as well as all of my students including Mike Brown Jr. in my two-plus decades as an education leader. But I am also creating programs for Healing Engagement in their honor to help not have these deaths again.

We are the first district in Missouri and the 3rd in the country to have Parent-Child Interaction Therapy in the schools starting this August to help to build great emotional developed individuals and give $300 to the 60 - 100 parents who do so for 12 weeks.

If we want peace and fewer killings, we need to be peaceful. If we want prosperity, we need to be the power that makes us prosper as well as US prosper.

When power erects walls, we must be bridge-builders of the heart, head, and hand.

When power or systems say, you cannot live and live to the fullest, we must live and live our best life to the fullest, anyway.
