When a Pothole Changed the World
Roadfill is run by a female CEO in a male-dominated industry and in celebration of International Woman's Day, we would like to inform you what drove her into the industry.?
Most of us view potholes as a mild nuisance. A physical representation of where tax money should be going but usually isn’t. We encounter these annoying little craters almost daily, but they never impact our day much beyond an uncomfortable bump on an otherwise tolerable drive. Thankfully, they hardly ever cause any significant damage or trauma. However, for Christie Raptaki, this wasn’t the case.?
?One day when Christie was on the road, going about her day, heavily pregnant with her daughter at the time, she hit a particularly large pothole which shook not only the car, but her too. In fact, the impact from this hole was so strong that she thought she was going into labour.?
?For Christie, this was obviously terrifying. Alone in the car, under the impression that suddenly, out of nowhere, she was soon to give birth. Panicking because a mere crumbled hole in the ground may had just decided that now was the time for her to deliver her baby.?

?After this scare, Christie could have moved on unscathed, ignoring the incident and forgetting about it. But she didn’t. While she was being checked out at accident and emergency, she decided to use her expertise as a civil engineer to do something about it. To make a change so that there would never be any excuse to not fill in those ridiculous holes that scatter our roads all over the world.?
?In 2017, Christie founded Roadfill, an organisation that has proven the efficiency and affordability of using recycled plastic to fill in potholes, as opposed to the widely used Tarmac and its environmental detriments.??
We strive to put as much sustainable material in roadworx as possible to ensure the future of our road networks and to reduce the plastic epidemic. ?
