When Opportunity Presents Itself, Be Confident and Take It

Lesson 21 of the FemFuel Fempreneurial Journey

Throughout my career, I've been privileged to encounter awe-inspiring stories of women who not only went big but also embodied a distinct entrepreneurial spirit.

These stories are not just tales of success; they are blueprints of resilience, adaptability, and unwavering determination. This is the 21th lesson, When Opportunity Presents Itself, Be Confident and Take It

When an opportunity presents itself, there is only one option: take it. If you connect with the idea and strongly believe in it, then pursuing it is the best thing you can do.

Opportunity came knocking for one entrepreneur when an old classmate asked her to be her co-founder.?

When Sophie was approached by Emma to become co-founder of her company, Sophie recognized it as a chance worth taking. They soon started working together and launched their company, Stylistica.

Stylistica is on a mission to empower businesswomen through style. On their platform, they offer guidance and assortments of professional attire to help women feel comfortable and confident. This was an issue Sophie faced herself while working in the corporate world, making her decision to join simple.

"I wanted to do it because I really believed in it, and I still believe in the idea."

Picking the “Right Time”

People could spend years nurturing an idea but not know where to start. This often results in wasted time “overthinking” instead of “doing.” Instead of spending time perfecting a business plan in your head, you could launch your business idea and perfect it through trial and error. This prevents you from wasting time and channels your energy into productivity.

It might not feel like an “ideal time” to start, but the reality is there never really is an “ideal time.” The closest you can get to the right time is simply having an idea you’re passionate about. The belief in your idea is the green light for you to get started. You learn what works and what doesn’t by making mistakes. You cannot plan for all potential setbacks and solutions in your head. Learning from experience is the best way to improve.

Once you launch your idea, you enter a space of natural productivity. You can start networking sooner and meet potential supporters to help grow your business.

Balancing Work and Personal Time

Jumping into entrepreneurship brings many lifestyle changes, one of which is balancing your work life and personal life. When building your startup, it often feels like you need to be working 24/7. If you’re not working constantly, it feels like you’re not doing enough, leading to a constant state of worry and overwhelm.

One solution is to reserve time for recreation and taking your thoughts away from work. For example, when it’s time to focus on your personal life, put away the computer and stop checking emails. At work, prioritize your duties to maximize productive results, helping to avoid the gray area between work and personal life. Enjoying time with people outside of work keeps you away from constant worry and fuels you with new energy.

Everyone works in different ways, so it’s important to find out what works best for you.

Don’t Dwell on Negative Times

The best way to get through negative times? Don’t dwell on them. Just like wasting time searching for the perfect moment, dwelling on negatives takes away from productivity.

Even when parts of the job are not glamorous, remain positive. As an entrepreneur, you become responsible for all aspects of a business. You can’t complain about your vacation, pay, or anything else anymore. You are in charge. This freedom to choose what you do should be appreciated, especially during hardships.

When facing rejections, allow time to build your confidence. It’s a learning process. If you dwell on the negatives, you’re not spending time looking for the next improvement. Learn from the criticism, move forward, and continue focusing on the positives. You must believe in your business because if you don’t, why should the stranger on the street or the next investor?

Remember that you got where you are because of who you are and what you have accomplished. Don’t focus on the rejections. Focus on your purpose.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a girl, boy, woman, or man. It’s about knowing what you’re there for.

Embracing the Unknown

If you’re excited about something and feel passionate, just take the leap. The journey might be daunting, but it will be rewarding. You will grow, learn, and become a stronger person. Following your passion can transform your life in ways you never imagined.
