When the Old Path No Longer Fits

When the Old Path No Longer Fits

Have you ever been knocked completely out of rhythm??

Life has a way of disrupting our path. Whether through a loss, a major change, or even a new opportunity — suddenly you find yourself off the course you had planned.

In these moments, we often hear well-meaning advice to "get back on track." But that assumes our old track is still the right one. Sometimes these disruptions signal that we need an entirely new rhythm.

What served us before might not fit who we're becoming now. Instead of returning to our normal patterns, we might need to learn entirely new ways of moving through our days.

There's also the question of timing. There are times when we need to pause, to process, to simply be. Yet we also know deep down that this pause can't last forever. We are challenged to find the right path forward, and know when we're ready to take those first steps.

I want to open up about something I'm moving through right now. I'm living with my own grief over a recent loss of a family member. I'm learning to be okay with where I am, while knowing I won't stay here forever. Each day, I have to learn to find what nourishes me, what helps me take the next small step.

We all face these moments when the familiar rhythms of our lives shift beneath us. Each path through them looks different.

How do you find your way forward when the old patterns no longer fit?

Thank you for sharing these profoundly insightful comments. What happens when experiences either good or bad derails us from our current path? Or, what do we do when our old keys no longer work to advance our practices? It’s a challenge like no other because in the face of loss and uncertainty it forces purposeful reflection. The type of reflection that calls out to deep change as its constant companion and invites us to trust an unfamiliar path to renewal.

You know I always get inspired by your posts which seems to hit home with where I’m at in the moment. First, I’m so sorry for your loss. Praying for peace through fond rememberances. Now, I’m at a reflection point in my career, having completed my DrPH, leading major community engagement grant initiatives, along with teaching at Mount Mary University and handling other private practice nutrition presentations and speaking engagements. Yet, I still dream of other things that I really would want to do if I weren’t so tied up. How do I create a balance between my commitments and desires, without losing the me that in my heart I know wants to come out and thrive to new heights with new challenges? Well, I guess with patience and faith in the Lord to guide my path, I believe the road ahead will become clear. But, know that I value your insight, providing us with such thought provoking messages. #Peaceandblessings #theJourneyContinues #TrustingtheLord
