When is the obvious NOT obvious

When is the obvious NOT obvious

In a recent chat with an AFA Member, whom I was encouraging to enter the upcoming AFIA awards because 1. their design is amazing and 2. because recognition for our industry is limited, the response I received was 'I have already sold that line to a major retail chain, so it is no longer on the market'.

Now I'm not sure that it is obvious to anyone, but just because a line is 'sold exclusively' to one client, doesn't mean a manufacturer shouldn't be rewarded and recognised for their R&D and design. Surely the client would value that additional recognition that may be awarded to the product?

So, take the opportunity to celebrate what you have achieved and recognise your team by entering the AFIA or ACE Awards. And just as an added bonus, TWO other organisations will be announcing automatic entry to prestigious national  competitions for AFIA and ACE nominees with major prizes on offer. Watch this space for announcements. BUT don't hesitate the AFIA's and ACE Awards close on 30 May 2016.........https://awards.australianfurniture.org.au/

so tell us what was this odd design if outside the square box you have me more than keen and interested in this mystery item :) and yes fully agree there is no greater joy for a craftsman that has spent endless hours on a new design or something different then to have it awarded or share the thoughts of other piers of the trade rather than just sell it to a retail chain and never have your name to it. because we all know retail will not allow aussie makers to fly and promote there manufacturing name / branding on anything anymore as heaven forbid anyone but the retail sector should take the glory for everyone else's hard yards. BUT saying that well done for getting whatever it is to retail market :)
