When My Wife Raised ME from DEAD

I woke up one morning extremely sick.(1980) My whole body ached from my head to my toes, even to the ends of my fingers. It felt as if I had been pulled through a knothole. At the same time, I was running an extremely high fever. I immediately cried out to God and came against this satanic sickness. However, I grew worse throughout the day. The sweat was just pouring off of my body, causing all my clothes to becoming wet.

Kathee my wife would pray for me throughout the day. I knew I had to shake this thing, whatever it was. So I went outside and began to climb the mountain behind our parsonage. I was pastoring an Assembly of God church in Three Springs Pennsylvania. As I climbed this mountain about every thirty feet or so I would get so dizzy that I had to stop and put my hands on my knees with my head bowed to the ground. When this happened I would pray hard. Dizziness and fatigue kept hitting me like the waves of the ocean. After a while, I would begin to climb the mountain again, and it wasn’t long before I’d have to stop and bend over again. It felt like I would pass out any second, but I kept on declaring that I would live and not die. I kept thanking God that I was healed and that by the stripes of Jesus I was made whole.

I think this is where many people make a major mistake: their faith is a passive faith; but biblical, God-given faith is not passive—it is aggressive and violent. I finally made it up to the top of this small mountain. I remembered where there was a decaying log lying on the ground, so I sat down next to it, and fell onto my back. I just laid there and prayed through most of the day. When I say I prayed, I mean I kept praising God that by the stripes of Jesus Christ I was healed. Eventually, I pushed myself back up and began to go back down the mountain very slowly, step by painful step. 

When I finally saw the parsonage, I was filled with great relief. I went into the house, feeling worse than ever. I asked Kathee to pray for me. She stayed and prayed at my side. I was burning up and I needed to get my clothes off. I went to our little bathroom and stripped down to nothing. I was going through terrible flashes. I lay on the linoleum floor hoping to absorb some of its coolness into my body.

Then something frightening happened. I began to sense in a real way that I was going to die. It wasn’t exactly fear; it was just something I knew. I cried out to Kathee to come to me. She came running into the bathroom and sat down on the floor, putting my head on her lap and praying fervently for me. I could feel my life slowly ebbing out. The next thing I knew my spirit and soul were leaving my body. I literally was above my wife, looking down upon my body, with my head in her lap. She was crying out to God for me. For a while, I simply hovered over the top of myself and my wife. There was no pain or sickness racking me anymore. There was just a complete and total peace.

I watched my wife as she commanded me to live in the name of Jesus. At that very moment, I felt myself being pulled back rapidly into my body. It was like somebody had turned on a vacuum cleaner and sucked me back into my body. I came to with my head in her lap. It felt like a cold wind was blowing over the top of me. I was totally and completely, instantly healed! I literally believe that I died that day, but my wife’s prayers brought me back.

And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give (Matthew 10:7-8).
