When Mother Nature (not the Stock Market) Drives Business
Yes, the stock market tanked this week.
?
The frenzy it created on the heels of a poor jobs report was enough to dominate the national conversation, drive presidential election chatter and bolster eyes on the next Fed meeting.
?
But indulge me as I devote energy to some other news worthy of attention. Because franchise heroes in a certain sector are on the front lines of Main Street America and busier than ever right now. And regardless of market swings, tough economy or not, they are answering the call in a time of need.
?
As I write this, a wave of first responders is already swooping in to care for homeowners and business owners in the wake of hurricane-turned-tropical storm Debby. [The same was true for Alberto, Beryl, and Chris in this year’s lineup from the National Hurricane Center.] Consider it a reminder that many businesses, like restoration franchises, bring skilled professionals in high demand when Mother Nature, not Wall Street, decides to show who is in charge.
?
In fact, Josh Miller, CR, CFE , president of Rainbow Restoration, a Neighborly? company, appeared on the “Houston Happens” show on CW39 at the beginning of this year’s hurricane season to educate homeowners with how to prepare for storm season and what to know about insurance policies in advance of what is always (I repeat, always) a very busy time of year. You can watch it here: https://cw39.com/video/rainbow-restoration-a-neighborly-company-houston-happens/9851053/
These are experts who don’t wait for the Fed to make a call about interest rates. They are too busy jumping into action before water damage becomes mold damage, and costs skyrocket out of control.
?
According to Central Florida Public Media, it takes just one inch of flooding to cost $25,000 of damage. And the National Hurricane Center predicts some 25 storms with four of them reaching category 3 hurricane status this year. Rest-assured, those dirty jobs will be handled with emergency precision to make people’s lives whole again thanks to many franchisees and their certified teams out there.

Add to that list junk-hauling franchises, storage container franchises, sheetrock repair franchises and you get the idea. There are some very busy people running very important businesses serving very important needs across the land.
?
Don’t forget the smoke damage and those remediation jobs sounding the alarms too. There are currently 89 active wildfires being managed across the country. Wildfires have burned 2,266,309 acres nationwide. Evacuation orders are in effect for 21 of those fires as of today.
?
When the smoke clears, the cleanup begins. And again, a slew of franchisees will be there to make it happen.
?
A new study in “Nature Ecology & Evolution” shows that the frequency and intensity of severe wildfires worldwide have doubled over the last 20 years. And properties in California, Texas, Colorado, Arizona and Idaho are at greatest risk in the U.S.
?
I’ve had my own go with these emergency services, albeit during winter storm season. Thank goodness I knew who to call to handle frozen pipes that had busted, appliances that needed fixing, water damage that needed cleanup and repairs to walls and baseboards. It was in my own darkest and coldest hours thanks to Winter Storm Uri in Texas that I found comfort in reputable brands with trained crews doing dirty jobs with confidence and reliability.
?
I share all of this as a collective sign of continued demand for these services and continued growth for these franchise brands. Because, while I don’t wish this on anyone, disasters will happen. And that’s when these franchisees and their crews will help you care for, protect and even recover some of your most valuable assets. And they will do it in a way that the stock market cannot.
