When It Matters, We Band Together

My upbringing has cultivated an appreciation towards employment in this country. As a child of immigrant parents, my father and mother did not have lucrative occupations and I can vaguely recall waiting in line for food stamps. Yet, I was not aware of our poverty. As I got older, childhood memories became more defined in which I understood our family’s socio-economic status of that time.

In America, the opportunities are limitless. There will always be work for you to create a path to your dreams.

The American Dream.

Then COVID hit. Then the opportunities became limited.

Several industries have taken big hits and we find ourselves competing against one another for rations of jobs that are left standing in a devastated economy. Stories of laid off individuals having difficulty finding work is all too common.

If I had to be honest, I had one foot in that darkness of despondency.

However, just as humanity has shown its unsightly side during these arduous times, so has our resilience and empathy.

colleagues that wrote me LinkedIn Recommendations to help me find work,

old high school friend that said I was a good person,

coworker that reminded me that I AM talented, intelligent and matter,

fellow professionals (some I didn't even know) reaching out to help with networking or just moral support,

SoFi Stadium Guest Services Management Team for hiring me part time and allowing me to pick up extra shifts till I got back on my feet,
