When Marketing Meets UX ??
I recently came across a membership plan from a skilled professional. It offers great value: $15/month for unlimited UX/UI courses...until you notice it’s billed yearly at $180.?
It’s a bit of a ‘sigh’ moment—not because of the price or the value of the knowledge offered, but because of the subtle marketing tactic. This is where marketing can often overshadow good UX/CX. As designers, we strive to create transparent, user-centered experiences. This goes beyond just designing buttons or design systems—it includes how pricing and information are presented and how trust is established. If there are options for monthly vs. yearly billing, both pricing structures should be communicated transparently (e.g., "$180/year (equivalent to $15/month)" instead of just "$15/month, billed annually").
Don’t Make Me Think, or Math!
As a: Potential customer who values a service and its provider I want: Clear and upfront pricing that reflects the true cost, without Tom Foolery or unexpected amounts at check out. So that: I can feel confident about my purchasing decisions and continue to support a service or brand I believe in.
When pricing is framed like this, it feels like the product is prioritizing conversions over clarity. It’s a reminder that no matter how well-designed a product or service is, marketing choices can impact the overall user experience.

Ya’ll! Trust and Transparency are core elements of UX, too.
