When Leaders Follow

We talk a lot about leadership, but we can forget that great leaders also know when to follow. In fact, I believe our ability to lead is directly connected to our ability to follow well.
Every leader, no matter how senior, reports to someone or something. Whether it's a board, stakeholders, or our own values and principles, we're all following something. The question is: how well are we doing it?
Good followers actively engage with their work. The skills that make us successful followers — like active listening, teamwork, and adaptability — are the same ones that make us better leaders.
What's your experience with followership? How has being a good follower made you a better leader?

3 周Great points! I have learned valuable lessons on leadership when I've been a follower...some on how to be a better leader and some on how NOT to lead. Thanks for your insight!

3 周Strong leaders are needed now. Too many follow just because they dont think they can make a difference - but they can.
