When was the last time you used a pen to write?

I must admit, even as I am typing this out, I am tempted to grab a pen and scribble out images and notes that are going through my mind...However, the reality is, I would first need to find a pen and then find a paper to do all of this...

Indeed technology has made it easier for us to take notes and pen down our thoughts today. Everything is done on our mobile devices or laptops. Remember the time when everyone used to carry a pen with them?

Most guys would have pens kept in their top shirt pockets while the ladies would have them in their handbags. And if we didn't have a note book or paper to write down important notes, the palm came in handy.

Today, how many of us still carry pens with us or even note pads? I know most journalists still do this but what about everyone else? Even doctors just type out reports and prescriptions. At one time, if you could understand a doctor's handwriting, you can understand almost everything.

My late grandfather wrote beautiful cursive writing. I have seen letters he wrote before World War 2, and the writing is just amazing. My writing is no where near his. I have a unique way of holding the pen, whereby I use all my fingers. And if you were to read my writing, it looks like the work of a five year old.

Still, writing is some of the first things we learn in school. And we should continue writing with the pen, even though technology has made it simpler.

In fact, when was the last time some of us took a pen to actually write something? And I'm not talking about a shopping list or filling up forms. When was the last time we wrote a story, drew a picture or expressed emotions on a piece of paper.

The reason why I decided to write about this is simply because I recently found myself struggling to write with a pen. In the past, I had no issues writing down notes from interviews and press conferences, but today, I just type them out on my laptop or mobile phone.

So when I was recently feeling up some forms and had to write down a report, I found myself struggling to even hold my pen. And after writing a few lines, my wrist started hurting as well.

As such, I have decided that I will start writing down my thoughts and views again on paper. Perhaps it will be my own way of preserving my legacy of my ugly handwriting.
