When was the last time you took some real time off from your business?

So last week something magical happened! For the first time in nearly 4 years, since I started my business I was able to take time off and have a real holiday, I mean a proper one where I wasn't worrying about something going wrong or where I was checking my emails and social media every other hour. I actually left my phone behind for most of the day!
It was absolutely heaven, for me but most importantly for my gorgeous little family who were delighted to have my full and undivided attention all day every day for 10 days. We went to my favourite place in the world, a little beautiful beach in the West Highlands of Scotland hidden away from the road and at the foot of a small forest. Most of the week was spent paddling, building sandcastles and collecting shells, oh as well as eating the local mussels, prawns and salmon but the best bit was actually being able to switch off and really enjoy spending some proper family time together away from everything which after all is actually why I do what I do every other day of the year!
Coming back to work today, I feel like I have been away for over a month. OK my brain took a little while to get going again, but I know that I have recharged my batteries and I'm full of #niaque ready to take on the next challenges and create some impactful communication campaigns for our fabulous clients over the coming months.
But all this wouldn't have been able to happen even just four months ago, as we didn't have the right team in place, I still found it hard to delegate and let go and we didn't have all the systems and processes that have allowed me to take the time off this Easter. Since Christmas, we have been working really hard to get everything in place behind the scenes to make sure that we are super organised, in control and able to take on the challenges that the daily rollercoaster of running a small business throws at you.....
It's still a work in progress, there's still lots to do but taking time off to recharge, relax and create special memories with family and friends is priceless!
What do you think? Does it get easier do you think as your business grows? When are you next going to take time off?

5 年To try and answer your question: yes it does get easier as you grow. It also gets harder! Good recruitment is absolutely vital in a small business. People who fit in and get on with the team can be trained to do a better job. A terrorist in the organisation can't be trained to do anything. It's a fantastic and hugely satisfying journey. There will be ups and downs, obviously, but trips to Skye with the family always compensate the tough times! See you next week.
