Consistent and Accurate Profiles
Obviously, an online presence is important and it's not just about visibility—it's about credibility and trust. You also want people to click to connect. You have 3-5 seconds to grab someone's attention. Make it count. Your name, email, number, and the market you serve should be seen right away! The biggest mistake I see is agents not including their market. Your IG profile, for example, won't attract new clients if people cannot immediately identify where you sell.?
A lot of this might sound pretty basic but Google yourself. You'll be surprised at what comes up.??
Here's why it all matters:?
- First Impressions Count: Whether it's a prospective client browsing Zillow or a referral checking LinkedIn, your profile is often their first interaction with you. Consistency in your bio, headshot, and contact information builds a professional image that instills confidence.
- Trust and Reliability: Clients want to work with agents they can trust. Inconsistencies in your profiles, such as different specialties or outdated contact details, 20-year-old headshots, or no info, can raise doubts about your attention to detail.
- SEO Fact: Search engines reward consistency. Uniform information across platforms helps improve your SEO rankings, making it easier for potential clients to find you when they search for real estate services in your area.
- Brand Cohesion: Consistent profiles reinforce your brand identity. Maintaining the same tone, message, and visuals enhances brand cohesion and strengthens your market presence, whether it's your website, social media, or listing platforms.
- Streamlined Communication: Accurate contact information ensures smooth communication with leads and clients. A mismatched phone number or outdated email address can lead to missed opportunities and frustration.
- Compliance and Legal Considerations: Many platforms have guidelines regarding accurate representation. Adhering to these ensures you're not only compliant but also mitigates any potential legal risks.
- Competitive Edge: In a crowded marketplace, attention to detail can only be a positive, right??
Some Action Items and Notes (For my real estate professionals but the basics will apply to everyone) :
- Audit Your Profiles: Because most MLS systems syndicate to other sites, start there. You'd be surprised at how many folks have the wrong info listed in their local MLS. Review your profiles on major real estate platforms (Zillow, Realtor.com, Homes.com, RealTrends.com) for consistency in bio, photos, and contact details. Don't forget social media sites (Facebook, IG, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Threads, YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok) and search engine or review sites like Google, Yelp, NextDoor, Yahoo Local.
- Update: Update headshots, contact numbers, email addresses, and make sure you include the market you serve. If you are short on space based on system limits try manipulating the system to include more info by making your name something like—Rebecca Green | Portland. Again, your market is super important!
- Monitor and Maintain: Regularly monitor your profiles for any discrepancies or outdated information. Set a calendar event for twice a year to search yourself and fix whatever you can. My calendar reminder was yesterday and I have a few updates to make myself.
Consistency and accuracy may seem like small details, but they can make a big difference in how potential clients perceive and engage with your brand. Stay proactive, stay consistent. Your online presence should be an asset to you.
