- that you took your team out for coffee after you lost a pitch to thank them? Not to ask them what went wrong.
- you brought your receptionist flowers after a week of hosting prospective clients?
- you were mindful of your accomplishments and all the people along the way who helped to make you successful?
- you called your Alma Mater's Career Services Department to help create a Career Day?
- you volunteered for a charity + didn't brag?
- you sat down with the most senior folks at your firm to ask them what makes them successful?
- you updated your resume when you were happy in your job?
- you picked up a $10 gift card for the cleaning person who cleans your office every night?
- you brought together "millennials" at your firm to ask them their ideas for your presentation to a client?
- you wrote an email saying thanks to a recruiter who contacted you about a job that you were NOT interested in?
Everyone talks about "branding yourself" in business and a ton of the recommendations are not authentic and in poor taste.
There are many times during my 20+ year career as a recruiter that I could have done a much better job and areas where my actions helped tremendously during tough economic climates as a 3rd party vendor.
Hang in there. Be kind to yourself.
The job search is tough, but if you do a few of the items above when you are happier (and not so happy) in your role, your choice of opportunities could be so much greater when you look for a job.

7 年Ah! Not touched alone! After reading through and about to comment on the quote " People will remember you as a human not a brand" amazed to see that immediately repeated directly before my comment. I have come to learn that nothing really makes us more and originally human than remaining humane in all sense, our innate qualities and it makes our world truly better than their less!

7 年Best part of the article "People will remember you as a human, not a brand. " I completely hate employers that ask "what is your brand?" I feel like saying, I'm a Louis Vuitton- Can you afford me?

7 年What a fantastic reminder to, in a nutshell, think about others more than yourself, be giving always and kind to everyone. Those attributes go a long way in business and personal life.
