When Jamison met Nancy.
Have you ever been to a meeting and they assign your seat? Not only that... they ensure that you sit next to someone you don't know? I really hate went someone invades my comfort zone and forces me to be (choking down bile) 'extroverted'.
Such was the case in a small conference room a few weeks ago where I was forced to sit next to Nancy. It was apparent that Nancy liked data, analytics, Macs, and openly referred to herself as a 'Nerd'. We started the day with each person telling a little about themselves, their career, and what they expected from the day's event. That's when I realized that "Nancy" was actually an alias... and I was sitting next to a national treasure.
Nancy was an alias. Her real name is Life Saver.
Nancy (and 19,000 other trained volunteers) quietly save lives throughout North America each and every day. She is the Founder and CEO of Crisis Text Line, a free 24/7 support line for those in crisis. Whether that is someone being bullied in school, struggling with addiction, contemplating self harm, or dealing with depression, Crisis Text Line is there to assist and offer referrals. Currently, they are processing over a million messages every single month. If those messages should evolve into an emergency, then Crisis Text Line will reach out to the nearest 9-1-1 Center to effect a response.
Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, 9-1-1 Centers see a spike in suicidal incidents.
Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, 9-1-1 Centers across America see a spike in domestics, attempted suicides, and suicidal incidents. This time of year can be the darkest of seasons for many people who feel like they have no where to turn. Many times their first turn is to calling 9-1-1 after the harm has been done. I cannot express how encouraging it is that our 9-1-1 professionals now have a partner to fight against human suffering.
So thank you, Nancy Lublin.
Thank you to all of the wonderful trained volunteers at Crisis Text Line.
For our readers... Share the message. Your post may be the reason someone experiences another Thanksgiving, Christmas, or birthday.
