When it’s your turn, take it!
Did you ever let someone else go first? That’s proper manners in many cases. However, when you’re at work or competing, then it makes no sense, right? We often have conflicting responses in life, don’t we? I often wonder why in one situation we’re told to do this but in another we’re told to do that.
Manners are good, I can’t deny that, but they often don’t make sense in sports or at work. We have to walk a thin line, don’t we? I am trying to do the best I can but I often stepped aside to help someone else get ahead. I also learned that doesn’t help me, does it? Of course, not unless that person helps you. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. It’s gambling.?We do things like that because we feel it's the right thing to do.
My point here is when you get the chance to do something that you are pretty sure you can do, even if it’s a stretch, I think you should step up and do it. I see too many talented people who don’t volunteer for things they can do. Too many let someone else go first without even offering to help or they simply are too embarrassed. Some people think they don’t have the time. Some people are just lazy.?
If you know you can’t make the time, I get that, that is good judgment. But if you don’t try something you know you’re capable of, just because, that’s poor judgment.?
Don’t feel bad looking back, there’s nothing you can do about opportunities lost.?

I was looking over the books on my bookshelf, real books not Kindle, and I came across a book by Seth Godin, “What to Do When it's Your Turn: (And it's Always Your Turn)” and it reminded me how we should try to do more when we can. I am not saying you should overcommit, that is another disaster which I have done too often.?
However, when you see something, you want to do and you can make time, I would recommend you do it. Don't let opportunity pass you by. If it does, you may regret not doing it more than doing it. Even if you fail or make mistakes, it will be a learning experience. Try not to let it pass you by.
Look around, what opportunities do you see around you?
