When to Invest... and When to Walk Away

I was watching this video the other day, and it got me thinking.
We put so much pressure on ourselves to make friends, to be liked, to fit in. But what if we've been approaching it all wrong? What if, instead of asking "how do I get this person to like me?", we started asking "is this person right for me?".
I mean, think about it. Friendships should be a two-way street, right? You should feel like you're both getting something out of it. If you're always the one making the effort, always the one trying to make plans, something's off. It's time to take a step back and reevaluate.
So, how do you know if someone is worth investing in?
It's all about those green flags.
Do they make an effort to include you?
Do they remember the things you tell them?
Do they make you feel good about yourself?
If you're nodding along, that's a good sign. That's a friend worth keeping.

But don't forget about your own needs. It's not just about them. It's about you too. Pursue friendships with people who share your interests and values. Don't just befriend someone because you feel like you should. Life's too short for that nonsense. Find people who genuinely light you up, who make you feel like you can be yourself.
And if you're always putting their needs first? If you're constantly doing things you don't really want to do, just for the sake of the friendship? That's not sustainable. A true friend will want you to be happy too.
So speak up. Ask for what you need. A real friend will be more than happy to find a middle ground, to find things you both enjoy.
I know, it's not always easy. But learning to read social cues, practicing these skills, it's so worth it. Because at the end of the day, it's about quality, not quantity. It's about finding those people who truly see you, and appreciate you for who you are.
ADHD can make the whole friendship thing feel like a constant uphill battle. But you deserve relationships that lift you up, that bring out the best in you.
So be picky. Don't settle. Hold out for those connections that truly make your life better. They're out there, trust me.
I want to hear from you. What's your biggest struggle when it comes to friendships? Drop a comment, let's chat.
Yours Differently,
