When humility attacks..
One of the most recognized sports figures of the past 100 years, crowned "Sportsman of the Century" by Sports Illustrated and "Sports Personality of the Century" by the BBC, wrote several best-selling books about his career, including The Greatest: My Own Story and The Soul of a Butterfly.
Ali, originally known as Cassius Clay, began training at 12 years old and at the age of 22 won the world heavyweight championship in 1964 from Sonny Liston in a stunning upset. Shortly after that bout, Ali joined the Nation of Islam and changed his name. He converted to Sunni Islam in 1975, and 30 years later began adhering to Sufism.
Although not failing the avenues of controversy to many of us he was an untainted hero, and a muslim. In a world were compromises and below the belt attacks have become the norm for putting the food on your plate, Mr Mohammed Ali aka Cassius Clay maintained his integrity and persona inspite of a treacherous and non forgiving media world. His humility and passion to help others had always surpassed his controversial statements as people could see through the hard face his soft core filled with integrity and human values.
A fighter fought through his dire circumstances to rise up to a world renown fighter position. Mr Muhammed Ali represented the ultimate underdog story and managed to become an ambassador of peace some how at the same time. Today the surface of this planet has a huge void to fill and it requests all the underdogs in the world to fill this void, with patience, perseverance, courage, grit and most important of all, with humanity. This is how Mr Muhammed Ali did it. Innalillahi wa innailaihi wa rajioon. May the almighty bless him with paradise, and give his family the patience to bear such a heavy loss.
