When (and how) should you talk about the competition? Ask Deion Sanders

Hey gang, welcome to Play It Back. A sometimes-weekly newsletter taking lessons from the greatest marketing and advertising campaigns of all time.

In this edition, you get the last two episodes, and some great campaigns that I didn't cover in the show, but are worth checking out.

You may have seen Deion Sanders all over ESPN College Gameday this Saturday, talking about sunglasses. You may have even asked yourself why.

In a brilliant move, Coach Prime jumped on a criticism from CSU coach Jay Norvell about how he doesn't take off his sunglasses for interviews.

Prime, never one to miss an opportunity, jumped on it, struck a deal with Blenders Eyewear , and in just three days, pre-sold nearly $5 MILLION worth of sunglasses.

How did they do it? Check it out in episode 207 of Play It Back:

The episode follows up on last week's, which I didn't share in a Linkedin newsletter, so you can find it below. It chronicles a competitive campaign from RevenueHero , and shares great examples of competitive advertising from 苹果 , Sprint , 三星电子 , and Miller Lite.

Watch episode 206 of Play It Back:

It can be confusing to know when to go after a competitor and their claims, so remember to stay true to your brand, your values, and stay focused on your customers.
