When the Horse is Dead – Dismount

When the Horse is Dead – Dismount

Many situations, things, or people in life do not satisfy us for long periods. For example:

  • Relationships that have become a burden.
  • Work that has become boring.
  • The business that brings only losses.

How often and for how long do you torture dead horses?

  • We outsource riding the dead horse to contractors.
  • We allocate additional resources to increase the productivity of the dead horse.
  • We say: "We always rode like this."
  • We enroll in courses to revive the dead horses.
  • We declare that no horse can be so dead that we cannot make it run again.
  • We change the criteria for the identification of dead horses.
  • We change the criteria for determining the fact of the death of the horse.
  • We change the rider. He is usually the one to blame when the dead horse is not galloping.
  • We improve the stability and encourage grooms.
  • We optimize all processes, especially for riding the dead horse.
  • We optimize the communication between the rider and the dead horse.
  • We organize an event to revive dead horses.
  • We visit other places to see how others ride dead horses.
  • We invite experts who have experience riding dead horses.
  • We compare different dead horses on the market, compare them with ours, and conclude that our horse is not quite dead.
  • We market the idea that dead horses have always been more economical, stable, and in many aspects better than living ones.
  • We dramatically raise our standards of quality control of the dead horse.
  • We gather colleagues to analyze the dead horse.
  • We form a group and analyze the dead horse, the time of death, and the measure of rigor.
  • We build a team for the resurrection of the dead horse.
  • We create a special stable department that takes care of all the dead horses. We use synergies.
  • We increase riders' responsibility, establish measures of the motivation of grooms, and encourage them.
  • We pull dead horses together, hoping that together they will ride faster.
  • We sit near the horse and persuade it not to be dead.
  • We invite the best vet.
  • We beat its croup with the shaft.
  • We beat the horse harder.
  • We bring especially fragrant hay.
  • We come to the stable every day.
  • We pull its tail.
  • We try to water the horse.
  • We try to raise it by the neck.
  • We persuade it to get up amicably.
  • We persuade ourselves that there is still hope.

It can be hard to give up a project or relationship that you may feel heavily invested in but know at your core is not going anywhere.

Of course, if you consider the saying "slow and steady wins the race," you should persevere and not give up. And in this case, there should be an indicator showing an accurate time for achieving the goals.

If there is none, you should remember the old American Indian Tribal saying: When the horse is dead, dismount.
