When the head of Instagram replies to me

Stick around for the Social Media News to Use below. This week's top five (or more!) most important updates to help you grow your brand.
This is the third or fourth time Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has engaged with me on Twitter. I saw that he posted his deeper dive Reel about Meta's big announcement this week (read my take immediately below that I also posted on LinkedIn and Facebook if you follow me there) on Instagram and being that I know he usually posts his updates on Twitter as well, I was waiting to amplify his tweet too. He was kind enough?to reply to my tweet with his video. It's a good reminder that there are real people behind these accounts. Don't be afraid to tag and comment, especially on the platforms where you know someone is more active.
Big feature announcement and the bigger story that people are missing.
Mark Zuckerberg wasted no time with the new?Meta Broadcast Channels?chat feature on Instagram which he used to initially announce a big new feature on Sunday morning -?Meta Verified.
“We’re testing Meta Verified, a new subscription bundle that includes account verification with impersonation protections and access to increased visibility and support.”
Most everyone is focused on the “pay for prominence” angle of this announcement which is significant, that you can pay to look like a profile of importance with a check mark. But I think the bigger story here is that Meta continues to want to even the playing field for creators. This is the priority for all the major platforms right now - LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter (Elon has at least expressed this, yet I haven’t seen it come to fruition), Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
As announced, the Meta Verified subscription will only be available for creators for now, not business accounts. The announcement mentions that you get access to support from “a real person” through the monthly paid offering. This is HUGE and the bigger story here in my opinion. It’s impossible for individuals to get access to direct help on Instagram and Facebook. Only businesses that spend thousands, hundreds of thousands, and millions on advertising on these platforms get prioritized with direct support.
Support on these platforms can help you with so many things, and it becomes especially important when something goes wrong with your account including being hacked, impersonation, features not working, and just asking simple yet unique questions and getting an informed answer.
I know firsthand the luxury of being able to contact Meta Support and get help from a person either through a help chat or with a phone call within a matter of minutes or hours.
It’s not a slam dunk yet whether I’ll recommend this for clients or for any creator in general as I still want to analyze how the final product is rolled out and listen to feedback from those who get access to it first.
Please reach out with any questions!
Will you consider paying for verification if you get access to the feature?
