When is Going to Midyear Worth It?

It's becoming more affordable to attend Midyear as at least three pharmacy colleges provide in-state tuition for out-of-staters and annual scholarships to some private colleges hit $25,000 a year or more. Still, why you go to Midyear is often murky.
Here is my most recent Pharmacy Residency Podcast episode, where I discuss the misunderstanding about what makes Midyear an event that delivers a great return on investment. The Midyear showcase is the Residency Showcase, not the Residency Applicant Showcase, yet, there are many ways a prospective resident can connect meaningfully and gain an advantage in the residency matching process.
Midyear is one of those FOMO events where students feel like they can't get a residency without going, but that's not true. Many students get a residency without attending Midyear, especially if their choices are very local to their school of pharmacy.

Either way, Vegas is an experience. If you have the money, sure, it's a great trip, but your money is better spent on well-crafted applications, and the time away from APPEs is often difficult to catch up on if your college doesn't add a week of flex time.
