When the Going Gets Tough

This is a famous track by Billy Ocean released in 1985. I chose this track because, however you slice and dice global economics and politics, conditions are not only tough but also look likely to get a lot tougher.

The going is, indeed, certainly getting very tough for Rishi Sunak and SKS, especially after the recent by-election result that has returned George Galloway as the new Member of Parliament for Rochdale.? This result could indeed change the whole political landscape and has set the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons; and talking of cats, who could ever forget his performance in The Big Brother House eighteen years ago!

There is indeed a smell of ‘Big Brother’ now unwinding in politics as, for the first time in a long time, both Rishi Sunak and SKS strangely seem to agree with each other that George Galloway’s election to Parliament is, in their opinion, somewhat undemocratic.? Why else would Rishi Sunak come outside Number 10 on the evening of the same day of the announcement and, for him, deliver some extremely strong language that implied the election of George Galloway was arguably rigged, primarily because of the sizeable postal vote, and that his campaign had? stoked up threats to our civil liberties.

He may indeed have had a valid point to make but his message was a little too late.? The Prime Minister really didn’t need to wait for the by-election result to air his views.? What he said could have been said weeks, if not months ago.? He could and should perhaps have commented when he took the Conservative Whip away from Lee Anderson, who lest we forget, had been the Deputy Chairman or Chair of the Conservative Party.? He was sacked for his anti Islamic views that were primarily aimed at Sadiq Khan; but where was the response from Government and indeed Mr Khan when pro Palestinian logos were directed at Big Ben.

You may also correctly ask if there was any challenge from The Metropolitan Police who are under the control of Mr Khan?? Of course there wasn’t any action taken but the Metropolitan Police had previously set a precedent when, to highlight just one example, they stood and watched Palestinians climbing on to the statue of Prince Albert in Hyde Park.? Silence is clearly not golden on this occasion.? Lee Anderson may have been clumsy with his language but his comments may also have resonated with the electorate, if not with the broader section of MP’s.? Indeed these comments may also have helped George Galloway to claim a somewhat surprising but incredible victory.

Reading between the lines of the Government’s response, this by-election was definitely not rigged and was clearly a wake-up call for the Two Party System; the facts are that very little seems to work well in this country anymore and that has to be down to Weak or maybe WOKE Governance.? Mr Galloway was elected to Parliament by the voters of Rochdale or, at least, the 40% of the electorate who were prepared to turn out and vote and, in support of my democratic argument, the second highest vote was not for the Conservative, the Labour or, indeed, the Liberal Candidate, but for an Independent Candidate who was not fighting for Gaza or Israel but merely fighting for local issues and he polled more than the aggregate votes for Blue, Red and Orange.?

What does this tell you?? The voters in Rochdale have merely expressed views that were clearly at odds with the two main Parties.? As a Red Wall constituency perhaps they were also more than a little disappointed with the decision to cancel the HS2 link to Manchester but it may also have been a vote expressing general alarm at the current Governance of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.? One thing is for certain.? It has lit a bonfire under the current political process of how we elect leaders and if the Government wants to take issue on the way George Galloway was elected, I suggest that they look at how the last two Prime Ministers have been elected to power.? I just don’t know how they therefore have the brass neck to criticise the process of his election to be a Member of Parliament.

It is, of course, Parliament on both sides of the House that has whipped up support for the alleged extremism and many voters are also fed up with the chaotic scenes and verbal wars batted around every week in the House of Commons so when The Right Honourable George Galloway arrives this afternoon to take his seat amongst the other Right Honourable Gentlemen and Ladies, his presence will provide an interesting contribution and a refreshing new dimension to Prime Minister’s questions every Wednesday.

In addition to the election of two unelected Prime Ministers, if you want examples of democracy not working just wind your minds back to 2003 when our Prime Minister, Tony Blair - now knighted - cuddled up to George W Bush and took us into an illegal war with Iraq which arguably laid the seeds of conflict now prevalent in the Middle East; and fast tracking Dodgy Dave Cameron into the House of Lords to serve as the Government’s latest Foreign Secretary is another example; and looking across the pond, how will we ever forget Trump’s Mob storming The White House on Capitol Hill three years ago.

In summary, I need to remain religiously neutral with my comments, even though religion has allegedly got a lot to answer for when it comes to fighting wars.? I therefore need to balance my earlier thoughts and comments on the Palestinians with my thoughts and opinions on Israel.? As an onlooker, I simply don’t get the case for massive losses of life.? The President of Israel will always remind us that the latest war with Hamas was started by Hamas last October and that is not in dispute but when the ratio of deaths is allegedly in the region of 30 Palestinians for every Israeli, it is no wonder that the pendulum of support amongst the international community is swinging well away from Israel in favour of the Palestinian people.

I have to conclude that when George Galloway told the populous in his victory speech that this election result was for Gaza, much of the British Media clearly in response demonstrated where their sympathies lay.? I could elaborate but I feel that in the words of that famous line from the House of Cards; I Couldn’t Possibly Comment but, lest we forget, if you look up the origin of the word Semite it dates back to the country of Palestine in biblical times where Jews and Arabs lived along side each other and peacefully.? Onlookers will continue to hope that the Status Quo will eventually prevail with perhaps some unbiased assistance from the Media. in their reporting

Some may be surprised to learn that the definition of a SEMITE is as follows;

A member of any of the peoples who speak or spoke a Semitic language, including in particular the Jews and Arabs and this is a definition way before Israel was established post WW2.? Indeed, the name Semite comes via Latin from Greek Sēm 'Shem', son of Noah in the Bible, from whom these people were traditionally supposed to be descended.

I am sure our pro Israeli Archbishop of Canterbury as the leader of UK Christianity and another person who has been fast tracked into the House of Lords, is fully aware of this definition.

So when George Galloway marches into Parliament this afternoon, the going for the two party system is likely to get a lot tougher, and when the going gets rough for the Prime Minister, the tough MP’s aka the RED WALL MP’s may indeed get going and leave the Party listless as they search for pastures new.
