When Fiction Becomes…

A few months ago on a writing forum at Twitter (now called X), a few colleagues and I had a discussion about some very especial “Fictional Movies”, which through the years started look like not so fiction at all.
We couldn’t agree on what the main reason was for this phenomenon. Maybe at that time the writers and directors had some kind of especial info, perhaps they received some kind of divine revelation, or more simple… they had a crystal ball.
The first title that came up was "2001 A Space Odyssey" masterfully directed and written by Stanley Kubrick in 1968. I saw the movie in the 70s. At that time I was a teenager and I couldn’t really understand how a computer could develop a survival instinct that would kill everyone who tried to unplug its cable. Of course, now after seeing many interviews on TV about Artificial Intelligence and its possible implications for the future, I think Kubrick nailed it. ??
Later on the discussion, someone commented about the recent legislation passed by the Congress regarding U.F.O.s, now called U.A.P.s. After a few whistleblowers stepped forward during a congressional hearing this summer, the lawmakers discovered that the government has a lot of evidence of Non-Human Beings for a long time. ?This brought to the conversation the movie "Independence Day", directed by Roland Emmerich in 1996, where part of the plot was that the C.I.A., in secret, had in their possession an Alien and a spaceship from out space. Also, that was when Will Smith behaved normal.

Finally, I added one from my own, that wasn’t completely under the radar, "Dave". In this comedy film, directed by Ivan Reitman and written by Gary Ross in 1993, the main actor, Kevin Kline impersonates a very corrupted US president Bill Mitchell. During the movie, we learn that Bill cheated on his wife many times, has to confront an impeachment trial for misappropriating campaign funds and also that he tried to frame his VP, an honest man, on his crimes. Rings any bell? ??
At the end of the movie, the controversial president died because a stroke. There, I have to say, the screenplay wasn’t really accurate, because on the funeral parade to the Arlington Cemetery, a TV journalist said that Bill Mitchell was the 44th president of the United States.
