When Fatigue Sets In

When Fatigue Sets In

The great thing about 2020 is that it’s over.

Yes there are the echoes of lockdowns (sometimes actual ones), yes there are still people driving in their own cars wearing masks and yes there are still news reports of COVID lurking in waste water threatening to jump out and infect us all….

But besides all of that business is doing it’s darnedest to get back into it….and how! If traffic is any indicator, if house prices are any indication, people are absolutely delighted to be free to move about and make up for lost time!

And sales teams are right up there. With the ghost of 2020 in our not so distant memories, these amazing people are going hard, setting times to meet online and in person with all of those they can to put more opportunity back into their pipelines. Okay, they’re chasing 2019+ sales targets but they’re flat stick.

Brilliant, right?

Absolutely. Here’s my “however”…

We’re sprinting a marathon and we’re falling over at the 10km mark, not the 30km one.

I’m putting my own hand up here too, because I live and die by my sales activity.

Unless we sales people and leaders replenish ourselves regularly, we won’t last the distance; we’ll limp across the line in December at best or be carried off long before….Let’s not let that be us.

Here are some of the things I’m doing that might help other Type A’s:

ONE: Getting an early night during the week: no emails in bed, no texting. Hours before midnight apparently count for double, so let’s put more of these in the bank. This also means winding down a bit earlier to let my overactive brain know it’s coming up to bed time…

TWO: Getting up earlier: and using that time to meditate, think of things you have to be thankful for, be quiet, have a cuppa and read something positive before the day begins in earnest. Fill your spiritual and mental cup with positivity first.

THREE: Hack your productivity cycles: schedule your day accordingly. For me it’s meetings in the morning, writing in the afternoons, exercise as my reward in the afternoon.

FOUR: Nourish your body: coming into winter combined with being run down isn’t a combination I’m inviting in. So I’m upping my zinc and vitamin c, my greens and my green tea intake (to counter my coffee obsession)…

FIVE: Exercise: make your heart pump a few times a week and exercise in nature whenever possible. The endorphin release is worth it and it reminds you that you can. Not to be taken for granted

Let me know your tips too. That way we can all finish together, in one pie
