Ah, the delicate balance between ego and confidence.
Have you ever worked with a CEO, business owner, or boss that simply couldn't get past their own ego to do what was best for the company? Confidence is a must for business owners, founders, entrepreneurs, leaders, and professionals at every level. Yet, when confidence is replaced with ego, it can have disastrous implications.
There is no place for ego in leadership when being able to make smart decisions is vital to the success of the business; and future of employee, vendor, partner and investor connected to the business. When a decision maker (usually CEO, CFO, CMO, etc.) fails to lead the charge for change and innovation, the business begins its descent into obsolescence.
I love Einstein's quote: "More the knowledge, lesser the ego; Lesser the knowledge, greater the ego."
Adapt or Die
Businesses fail, or die a slow death, when leadership is unwilling to enable the business to remain relevant and competitive...all because someone's ego prevented them from embracing or supporting an idea that was not their own.
Building a sustainable business requires commitment to continuous learning, for every person in the organization. Successful leaders know they must surround themselves with people with complimentary skills and knowledge.
Putting Ego in Check
It takes guts to address ego-driven leaders, clients, partners, supervisors, co-workers, etc.
What do YOU do when someone lets their ego interfere with the best interest of the business or your relationship with the business?
