When Ecology Springs to Mind
I wanted to take this opportunity to remind our valued clients and contacts across the sectors we work in about the importance of forward planning at this time of year – particularly when it comes to ecology.
Surveys need to coincide with animals being active and when plants are more visible. Furthermore, as habitat surveys are the starting point for determining all of the subsequent protected species surveys, spring is a key time of year for any projects requiring ecology work.
Spring also marks the time of year when information can be provided to support other policy and legislative matters including Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), landscape restoration, Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA), carbon offsetting and nutrient neutrality assessments. BNG and nutrient neutrality are expected to further come to prominence over the course of the year and so there is no doubt that environmental requirements will look different at the end of the year compared to now. Do not delay, plan your requirements in before it is too late - our helpful survey calendar is available here .
If you need some guidance our Head of Ecology ( Nick Masters ) can help.
Nick joined Crestwood as an Associate Director in January 2022. He is a problem-solver and is familiar with working on complex situations relating to ecology on quarries, development sites, energy infrastructure projects and much more.
