When the Earth Shook

As per a BBC report, 56 million people died in 2017.
· Of this, 18 million died of heart disease which are caused by flawed living, incorrect eating habits, sedentary life style and manmade stress. No one blinked an eye.
· 9.2 million deaths were due to cancers which is due to carcinogens elements present in our air, water, food, pesticides, animal husbandry. No one blinked an eye.
· 3.6 million died of respiratory diseases caused by air pollution, smoking, burning of waste, petrochemical fumes from transportation. No one blinked an eye.
But less than 5000 people die worldwide due to a disease we cannot fathom and we are hiding behind masks, avoiding touching not just others but even our own face.
It did not matter to us that animals across the globe were dying of plastic consumption. Snow covers were melting. Sea levels were rising. Forest covers were depleting. Desert covers were increasing. Air pollution was steadily killing more people each year. Pollution on Everest was destroying the virgin snow peaks. We turned our blind eye towards all this pillage and plunder of mankind.
But one day the earth shook.
And nature fought back. We shivered in fear and run for cover. We are confused, perplexed and baffled how we could not conquer nature in totality. How can Mother Nature still take us by surprise? What with multiple satellites covering every inch of our planet and AI & ML researching every piece of data on earth in every possible context with over 100% accuracy? Oh how but how can humans not yet be superior to nature!!
When nature balances the imbalance we have created and the havoc our greed has caused on the mute and helpless flora and fauna, we have nowhere to hide and no solution available. It is the first time ever that we reached the tipping point when all political forces of the world had to come together and unite for a single cause – prevent a complete annihilation of humans from planet earth.
What will happen if every human on earth dies? Will the earth blow apart and be destroyed? No. Nature will flourish. Forests will grow back. Rains will wet the deserts. Animals will reproduce. Rivers will become cleaner. Air will become pure once more. Sun will rise and shine for eons to come. Seasons will come and go. Mother Nature will recreate a new life on earth which will love and worship it for millennia till once again greed will take over and the entire cycle will be repeated.
We wondered for years what happened to the dinosaurs? Did they also develop a human like greed which lead to their collapse? Did they trample on other lesser beings killing them for fun? Did they consume all flora and fauna for their gluttony and grew so large that they could not sustain themselves any further? Did Mother Nature kill its own offspring because it became an ‘Asur’, a demon?
Are we about to find the answers for it very soon?

5 年In the Hindu belief system the cyclic interplay of creation /sustenance and destruction is fundamental and the cycle goes on. Maybe this is just an indicator of future such Global Catastrophes. While nations become more protectionist guarding their own self interests mother nature has shown us what is real globalisation and what does it mean by the term : " Vasudhaiva kutumbakam" - World is one family. Wake up call for sure !!
