When did you first feel that you could be a leader?
Today, I watched a film that posed an intriguing question: "When did you first feel that you could be a leader?"
Those of us with a growth mindset are always on the move, striving to improve, learn more, and delve deeper. However, it's important to occasionally pause and give ourselves a pat on the back. To take a break, reflect on the heights we've climbed, and truly absorb and appreciate them.
This question struck me as profoundly personal, touching on something that I believe many of us have felt at some point. The realization that I could start my own company, lead people, impact a product, and through it, enhance people's lives. So, take a moment today to ask yourself: when did you first feel that you could be a leader? Leadership is something one becomes, not something one is born into. A whirlwind of events, a blend of innate talents, and external circumstances lead you to this realization. And when times get tough, remember this feeling and know that if you've felt it, you're capable of it.
When did I first experience this feeling? It was back in kindergarten when the teacher had to step out and left me in the center of a circle to read a story to the others. In that moment, I realized I could captivate an audience. Perhaps that's why I still prefer to lead through teaching and development. This memory might even be a fabrication, as my mother told me this story after she walked in and witnessed the scene. But when I asked myself the question today, this was the memory that surfaced.
Let's make time to give ourselves a well-deserved pat on the back! ??
