When you are familiar with something, it becomes a default.? A go to.??
How often have you been at your favourite restaurant (because it’s familiar) and you order the same dish.? You might even say, I know I should try something different, but I really like this meal.
It’s human nature to default to what we know.? It’s familiar.
Another example is criticism.? Too often it has become familiar to accept criticism and unfamiliar with praise.?
Consider the instance when you compliment someone, only to have them brush it off with self-deception.? The ease with which we reject praise, sometimes without even realising it, has consequences that extend beyond mere social interactions.??
Medical research has linked the impact of self-critical words on mental health, linking them to be a potential contributor to conditions like depression.
Quantum physics and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) teach you, what you repeat to yourself and focus on becomes your reality.??
Praise, as studies show, has the remarkable ability to boost self-esteem, making it a crucial element in fostering a positive mindset.?
It’s time to make praise familiar and criticism the unfamiliar. So how can this shift be achieved?
Research in brain science highlights the notion of neuroplasticity.?
When praise replaces criticism, our neuronal connections engage, forming new patterns in our brains.??
This creates and strengthens new patterns in your brain.? And this allows for the development of new habits in your thinking, feeling and behaviour.
Self-reflection is a great tool to have an objective evaluation of yourself.? It allows you to notice what you think, feel and say to yourself.
Unlike self-criticism, which asks if you're good enough, self-compassion asks, "What's good for you?" - Kristin Neff
Self-reflection helps us to identify negative patterns in your life.? And it also empowers us to change them.??
Once you have become aware of any, it allows you to turn this around and start to change what you say.??
Learn to give yourself praise.? Notice that you worked your butt off to get that (insert achievement/goal).????
Stop and reflect how far you have come in life.? That you’re not the same person you were 3 months ago, 12 months ago or even 5 years ago.??
So, let's make a collective effort to shift the narrative from criticism to self-praise. Your journey toward self-appreciation starts with small steps, and I'm here to support you.
If you're ready to kick criticism to the curb and embrace self-praise, I invite you to contact me for a free discovery call.
