When is the best time to reach out to your interviewer?
In a world of growing connections and people commonly moving in industry specific circles – networking tools are a must to guarantee an interview.
LinkedIn is a great tool for researching a business and getting to know the major players before your interview. If you know the name of your interviewer, check out their LinkedIn profile to get to know how long they have been at a business and what their core responsibilities are.
Knowledge is key and prior research will put you ahead of the game - but when is the best time to send a connection request? This is best done after the first meeting once you’ve built up a strong rapport, then send over a connection request to thank the interviewer for their time and for sharing more details on the business/role.
This shows you have genuine interest in the business and see value in being connected to share knowledge regardless of the outcome of the role.
On the flip side if you send a connection request before the meeting, you wouldn’t have the rapport with the interviewer and it may come off as lacking commercial understanding.
If you think pragmatically about how and when to connect with the business, this feeds into your commercial maturity and understanding – heightening your chances of a job offer!
