When to Call it Quits?
We all have once dreamed of joining a company or a role and finally one day all the hard-work would pay and we would land up right there, where we wanted to. A few months into the job, we would start feeling out of place. Role not as expected, internal politics, boss is super fuzzy… we would have different reasons but only one thing would be running at the back of the mind – Should I call it quits?
Admit it, we have all been there, some may be there right now and some may be in the verge of getting into that zone but this syndrome would have affected us all at one point of time. What looked glossy and rosy before might look thorny and lazy now. And mostly, the decision would be spontaneous, we would just call it quits because we are not able to take it anymore and move on. But point is, have we really moved on? Aren’t we stuck at the same place where it all started? May be we got the change we wanted, but are we happy where we are right now? Aren’t we looking for a change again? The answers to all these questions would help us retrospect and understand one thing – We called it quits not because the situation warranted it, it was because we are not able to put in what is called as the –Effort to Sustain.
We thought running away from the demon would save us forgetting we would eventually run into another demon. What we needed to do was equip ourselves to handle the demon then and there instead of merely postponing meeting with another demon down the line. If you are stuck in this syndrome right now, remember, all that is required is just a little bit of effort for you to sustain this moment. Running out of the situation may provide a temporary relief but it may have taken away the fruits which awaited you post sustaining. The cumulative losses we incur in these endless episodes of fleeing end up being detrimental to our own careers and our dreams keep changing, not for the better. So when to call it Quits? NEVER. Just keep pushing for it is everything you ever wanted.

7 年Well said. Feeling out of place actually depends upon few things, one is your perception, means how you analyse things in your office and 2nd is your motive of working. it means why are you working, how are you analysing your career graph, whether company has that capability to retain employee for long in terms of job responsibilities and in monetry terms. And also it depends upon your learning. ultimately we cannot clap with one hand.
