Your junior is hearing about all the college decisions and they are starting to worry!
As decisions start to roll out this month, you may start to hear the word "Deferred", which has become increasingly popular over recent years. This decision is particularly prevalent among the most selective colleges, whether public or private.?
In short, it means that students who applied in the early application round are left in limbo until the spring of senior year. Actually, I think it’s better to get a “Denied” decision because it’s even more stressful when you don’t know where you stand. (Didn’t Dante already teach us about the misery of being in limbo?)
Waiting can be hard, especially when an applicant sees fellow seniors celebrating their “Admitted” decisions. A few years ago, my family changed all our New Year's plans because my son's application was deferred. And get this . . . like so many other teens this year, he stopped working on his other applications until after his deferral notice!
Every year, students (and their parents) are super confident in their high GPAs and test scores that they take a break from drafting application essays.
If your teen's application was deferred, take heart . . . your teen is still a great candidate and it's still early in the admissions season.?
If you have a junior, start preparing NOW. They will be applying for colleges before you know it and you don’t want to be holding a big tuition bag! Sign up now for a complimentary call with me.

I really enjoyed and benefited tremendously from working with Compass. They have been a huge help to me as well as my parents along the way. Compass was able to open our eyes to many different college options and working with them has been one of the best decisions that we have made.
