I'm constantly in awe of some incredible projects that really push the engineering limits of natural stone. This Thursday in London there is a great opportunity to see the masters of these materials talking about their daring achievements.
Arup Director and facade engineer Ed Forwood will showcase three almost unfeasible projects: The Sagrada Familia, Renzo Piano's Malta Parliament, and The Grand Egyptian Museum. The stunning RIBA South Award winning Sultan Nazrin Shah Centre by Niall McLaughlin Architects will be presented by project architect Alistair Crockett, and Paola Blasi, one of the world's leading stone experts will discuss exquisite marble and her unique learning in over three decades in the Italian stone industry. Geologist Jemima French and structural engineer Tom Clewlow of Arup will present the technical wizardry of self supporting stone staircases, and Robert Merry of the Stone Federation will talk about natural stone interiors
Please do join us from 11:30 this Thursday at the Stone Hub at the free to attend Surface Design Show in Islington, London.
