This week at Kath's Place we have this story to tell, a local mum with 2 small children passed our community hub, she had circled many times not sure if we were truly a food bank ( we Are ) or an expensive charity shop ( we are not ), this is always a concern as we always seek to make our space accessible and welcoming, fun and colorful, just because your poor do the services you access need to be so often so grim? like so many before she came through the door, pride is tough, and seeking food, advice & support is not easy but her story was like so many before her, made redundant due to Covid she found herself having to go through the cupboards until nothing left, then today with the last piece of bread, Mum was about to share with her 2 small children when her 7-year-old son said " Mum, we don't need this, you eat it and we need to get some help from a food bank.
The family-like many before circled Kath's Place, worried and fearful, Pride should never stop anyone seeking help, the reality for far too many, it does, the little boy loves football so we gave him a ball , a Millwall shirt and new boots, sometimes what we get donated is not about what we can charge, but the difference those items can make, as members of the food pantry they will never again need to worry about going hungry or the kids needing stuff for sports or school / because at Kath's, whatever ever your gender, faith, economic status, support, kindness, solidarity is what we have always done in Deptford and thanks to the donations that come through the door, the builders who come every morning to buy builders tea and a bacon roll and the mums who drop by for Tea and Cake after the School run we hope the cash keeps coming so more children are able to bring their mums and dads to Kath's Place whenever they find themselves through no fault of their own going hungry and in crisis
?
Could you help us create a Community Kitchen open and accessible to ALL? https://gf.me/u/x8m3fw .
